The Honorable Gerald Poje, Ph.D. is a is a Senior Consultant with The Grant Group. Dr. Poje is a toxicologist and chemical safety consultant working with government, environmental organizations, trade associations, trade unions, and foundations. He serves as a Professorial Lecturer in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. Dr. Poje has broad expertise in public communications, crisis management, media relations and relations with Congress and executive agencies.
As a Presidentially-nominated and U.S. Senate-confirmed founding Board Member of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, Dr. Poje was on scene at numerous investigations into explosions, fires and toxic chemical releases coordinating investigations and public communications. Dr. Poje advocated for the board’s safety recommendations before Congress, state and federal regulatory agencies, trade unions, trade associations, corporations, professional and public advocacy organizations.
Dr. Poje directed international programs and public health for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, focusing on disease prevention, health promotion and ensuring environmental justice for low income and minority communities. He coordinated national efforts with the World Health Organization and the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety, promoted the development of international information networks to enhance global understanding of chemical hazards and their risks.
He is a Fellow of the Collegium Ramazzini, an international professional society of leading scientists, policy experts and health practitioners distinguished by their concern for occupational and environmental health. He has served on the National Academy of Science’s Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology and its expert committee assessing vulnerabilities related to the nation’s chemical infrastructure and multiple aspects of chemical safety policy and practice.
Dr. Poje also served as Board President for FACETS, a non-profit social service and advocacy organization that seeks to comprehensive health promotion for homeless people in Fairfax County, VA. In 2007 the Fairfax County Human Rights Commission recognized Dr. Poje as recipient of the Human Rights Award.
